- Checked two common milkweed plants for signs of monarch eggs or larvae; found two small monarch larva on separate leaves - caterpillars with yellow, black, white stripes, two tentacles in front and smaller ones in back! Same instar stage - believed to be 3rd instars (the front tentacles would reach the tip of the head in length if we folded them over but not extend farther, back tentacles shorter than that).
