- I observed 22 common milkweed plants. There were many more milkweed plants on the site. Out of the plants I looked at, there were four eggs and one instar. There was a monarch butterfly that flew by, but I couldn't make out if it was male or female. Milkweed plants are mixed in with other species of plants and the grass around the plants is cut short to keep a trail. Other insect species seen: 3 red milkweed beetles, about 60 caterpillar larvae on one milkweed leaf (milkweed tussock moth?)
