- They seemed to have appeared out of no where. On the first day we noticed, we saw one. Later that day, saw 5, the next day saw 10 and the next saw 12. At it's peak, there were 12 of many different sizes on the plants, which is what I'm recording here (9/8). After a couple of days of heavy rain, there were still 10 seen on the plants. As of today, I count 5. We noticed at least one crawling away from the plants about 15 feet away. We lost track of it, assuming it and the other larger caterpillars have gone off to pupate. We haven't seen any chrysalises.
